Description

Soft, buttery, and beautifully golden, this Amish White Bread is the kind of recipe that fills your home with the warm, nostalgic scent of fresh baking. It’s easy enough for beginners, yet rewarding enough for seasoned bakers looking for that perfect everyday loaf. Whether you’re making French toast, sandwiches, or simply enjoying a slice with butter, this bread belongs in your weekly baking routine. It’s a great option for those seeking *easy recipes*, *homemade bread*, or *breakfast ideas* that feel special but stay simple.

Ingredients

2 cups warm water

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

1 1/2 tablespoons active dry yeast

1/4 cup vegetable oil

1 1/2 teaspoons salt

6 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

1. In a large bowl, mix warm water and sugar. Add yeast and let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.

2. Stir in oil and salt. Gradually mix in flour, 1 cup at a time, to form a soft dough.

3. Knead on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

4. Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled.

5. Punch down dough, divide in two, shape into loaves, and place in greased 9×5 pans.

6. Let rise again for 30–45 minutes, until tops are rounded.

7. Bake at 350°F for 25–30 minutes until golden and hollow-sounding when tapped.

8. Cool 10 minutes in pans, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

9. Slice and serve once cooled.

Notes

If the dough is too sticky, add flour 1 tablespoon at a time while kneading.

Brush tops with melted butter right after baking for a soft, shiny crust.
