Ingredients

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup brown sugar

2 large eggs

1/2 cup milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup peeled and chopped apples

1/3 cup brown sugar

1/3 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon cinnamon

3 tablespoons cold butter, cubed

1/2 cup powdered sugar

12 teaspoons milk or cream

Instructions

1. In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and cold butter until crumbly. Set aside.

2. In a large bowl, whisk melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Add eggs and vanilla; whisk until smooth. Mix in milk.

3. In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Gradually add dry mix to wet ingredients. Fold in chopped apples.

4. Pour half the batter into a greased loaf pan. Optionally add a cinnamon sugar layer. Top with remaining batter and sprinkle streusel on top.

5. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 50–60 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes in pan, then transfer to a rack.

6. Whisk powdered sugar and milk to form glaze. Drizzle over cooled bread before slicing.

Notes

Let the bread cool completely before glazing to avoid melting the drizzle.

You can substitute half the apples with chopped pears for a seasonal twist.
