Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

1 green bell pepper, diced

1 small yellow onion, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

2 tablespoons tomato paste

1/2 cup ketchup

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon brown sugar

1 teaspoon chili powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

4 brioche buns

Instructions

1. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a little oil. Sauté onion and bell pepper for 3–4 minutes until softened.

2. Add garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.

3. Add ground beef to the skillet. Cook until no longer pink. Drain excess fat if needed.

4. Stir in tomato paste, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, chili powder, salt, and pepper.

5. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes to thicken and blend flavors.

6. While simmering, toast brioche buns until lightly golden.

7. Spoon the meat mixture onto toasted buns and serve hot.

Notes

Toasting the buns adds structure and prevents them from becoming soggy.

You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
