Description

Creamy, buttery, and wonderfully nostalgic—cafeteria noodles are the comfort food you didn’t know you were craving. Whether you’re looking for a quick dinner idea, a simple side for roast meats, or just a warm bowl of goodness on a busy weeknight, this easy recipe delivers. The soft egg noodles soak up a rich broth, mingling with melted butter and a touch of cream for that classic cafeteria-style flavor we all remember.

Ideal for both beginners and seasoned home cooks, cafeteria noodles use pantry staples and require minimal prep, making them a go-to for easy recipes, family meals, and budget-friendly food ideas. Add herbs or proteins to make it your own, or serve it plain as the ultimate cozy companion to your favorite main course.

Ingredients

12 oz wide egg noodles

4 cups chicken broth (low-sodium)

2 tbsp unsalted butter

1 tsp garlic powder (optional)

Salt and black pepper, to taste

1/2 cup sour cream or heavy cream (optional)

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, bring the chicken broth to a boil over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the egg noodles and cook according to package instructions (usually 7–9 minutes), stirring occasionally.
  3. If needed, drain a little broth to reach your desired consistency (leave some for moisture).
  4. Reduce heat to low. Stir in the butter until fully melted.
  5. Add garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir gently to combine.
  6. For extra creaminess, stir in sour cream or heavy cream and heat just until warmed.
  7. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve warm.
