If you need holiday baking ideas, easy cookie recipes, fun dessert ideas, or a crowd-pleasing sweet snack, this one always delivers.

Ingredients

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/2 tsp almond extract

1/2 cup holiday sprinkles

24 candy cane kisses, unwrapped

1/3 cup crushed candy canes

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

3. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

4. Mix in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract until fully combined.

5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until a soft dough forms.

6. Fold in the holiday sprinkles gently.

7. Scoop the dough into 1 tablespoon portions and roll into balls.

8. Place the dough balls on the prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart.

9. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes, until the edges are set and the tops are just lightly puffed.

10. Remove the cookies from the oven and immediately press one candy cane kiss into the center of each cookie.

11. Sprinkle crushed candy canes around the center while the cookies are still warm.

12. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Chill the dough for 15 to 20 minutes if it feels too soft, which helps the cookies keep their shape better in the oven.

Press the candy cane kisses in as soon as the cookies come out so they settle neatly without melting too much.
