Great for dipping bread, crackers, or veggies—this is a must-try for fans of savory, melty goodness. Ideal for anyone searching for easy dinner recipes, holiday appetizer ideas, or food ideas for gatherings.

Ingredients

2 large yellow onions

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

1 tablespoon olive oil

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 ½ cups shredded Gruyere cheese

8 ounces cream cheese, softened

½ cup sour cream

1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves

½ teaspoon salt

¼ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

1. In a skillet over medium-low heat, melt butter with olive oil. Add sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Cook for 30–40 minutes until deep golden brown, stirring occasionally. Add garlic in the last 5 minutes.

2. In a bowl, mix cream cheese, sour cream, Gruyere, thyme, salt, and pepper until smooth.

3. Fold in the caramelized onions, reserving a few for topping.

4. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish. Top with extra cheese and bake at 375°F for 20–25 minutes until bubbly and golden.

5. Garnish with reserved onions and fresh herbs.

6. Serve hot with bread, crackers, or vegetables.

Notes

Use a mandoline to slice onions evenly for consistent caramelization.

Let the dip rest for 5 minutes after baking—it’ll thicken and become even creamier.
