Description

This Classic Apple Strudel is a flaky, buttery masterpiece filled with tender spiced apples, golden raisins, and a hint of lemon wrapped in crisp layers of phyllo dough. It’s a traditional dessert that delivers on texture and flavor — perfect for holidays, weekend baking, or whenever you’re craving something warm and comforting. This easy apple dessert is elegant enough to impress guests and simple enough to make anytime. Serve it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dusting of powdered sugar for a timeless treat.

Ingredients

8 sheets phyllo dough thawed

4 apples peeled, cored, and thinly sliced

0.5 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 tablespoon lemon juice

0.25 cup raisins optional

0.5 cup plain breadcrumbs

6 tablespoons butter melted

2 tablespoons powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

2. In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and raisins. Let sit for 10 minutes.

3. In a small skillet, melt 1 tablespoon butter and toast breadcrumbs until golden. Set aside.

4. On a clean towel, lay one phyllo sheet and brush with melted butter. Repeat with remaining sheets, stacking each on top.

5. Sprinkle toasted breadcrumbs across the lower third of the phyllo. Add apple mixture evenly over breadcrumbs.

6. Carefully roll strudel into a log using the towel to guide. Tuck in edges and place seam-side down on parchment-lined baking sheet.

7. Brush top with remaining melted butter.

8. Bake for 35–40 minutes until golden brown and crisp.

9. Cool slightly and dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Keep phyllo covered with a damp towel while working to prevent it from drying out.

Freeze the unbaked strudel for future use—just bake straight from frozen with a few extra minutes.
