Description

Buttery, golden puff pastry wrapped around warmly spiced apples and crowned with a rich vanilla glaze — this Cozy Apple Kringle is comfort in pastry form. Perfect for fall mornings or holiday brunches, it brings a bakery-worthy treat right to your kitchen with minimal fuss. Whether you’re looking for a quick breakfast idea, a cozy dessert, or just new food ideas to impress guests, this easy recipe checks all the boxes for flavor, texture, and seasonal charm.

Ingredients

1 sheet puff pastry, thawed

2 large apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced

1/3 cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)

1 teaspoon cornstarch

1 teaspoon lemon juice

1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

1/2 cup powdered sugar

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 to 2 tablespoons milk

Instructions

1. Peel and slice apples thinly, then place in a saucepan with brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cornstarch, and lemon juice.

2. Cook over medium heat for 5-7 minutes until the apples are tender and the sauce thickens. Let cool.

3. Roll out puff pastry into a 10×14 inch rectangle on a floured surface and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

4. Spoon the cooled apple filling down the center of the pastry. Slice diagonal strips on either side of the filling.

5. Fold the ends over the filling and alternate the strips to create a braided pattern. Tuck ends under and brush with egg wash.

6. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 20-25 minutes until golden and puffed. Let cool slightly.

7. Whisk powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk into a glaze. Drizzle over the baked kringle.

8. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

Use Granny Smith apples for a tangier filling or Honeycrisp for a sweeter bite.

The kringle is best enjoyed fresh but can be reheated in the oven for a crisp refresh.
