Ingredients
8 oz breakfast sausage
6 large eggs
2 cups milk
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
6 cups bread cubes (preferably day-old)
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
2. In a skillet, cook sausage until browned and fully done. Drain excess fat.
3. Layer bread cubes evenly in the prepared dish.
4. Spread cooked sausage over bread, then sprinkle with shredded cheese.
5. In a mixing bowl, whisk eggs, milk, salt, and pepper until smooth.
6. Pour egg mixture over the bread, pressing lightly to soak.
7. Cover with foil and refrigerate overnight or bake immediately.
8. Bake for 45–50 minutes until golden and center is set.
9. Let rest 5–10 minutes before serving.
Notes
Use crusty or day-old bread for the best texture—fresh bread can get too mushy.
Make it your own by adding chopped peppers, onions, or spinach before baking.
