Ingredients

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup packed brown sugar

2 large eggs

2 tsp vanilla extract

2 cups all-purpose flour

3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips (plus extra for topping)


Instructions

  1. Cream the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (2–3 minutes).
  2. Add eggs one at a time, mixing after each addition. Stir in vanilla.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Gradually mix dry ingredients into the wet mixture just until combined.
  5. Fold in chocolate chips with a spatula.
  6. Optional: Chill the dough for 30 minutes to 2 hours.
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  8. Roll dough into 2-tablespoon-sized balls and place on sheets.
  9. Press extra chocolate chips on top.
  10. Bake for 9–11 minutes until edges are set and centers look slightly soft.
  11. Cool on the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
