Ingredients
1 1/2 cups warm water
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
1 tablespoon brown sugar
2 teaspoons salt
4 cups all-purpose flour
2/3 cup baking soda
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1 tablespoon coarse sea salt or pretzel salt
Instructions
1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, brown sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
2. Add salt and flour to the mixture. Mix until a dough forms, then knead for 5–7 minutes until smooth.
3. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 45–60 minutes or until doubled in size.
4. Punch down the dough and divide into 4–6 pieces. Roll each into a rope and cut into 1-inch bites.
5. Bring water to a boil in a large pot and add baking soda carefully. Boil dough pieces for 20–30 seconds.
6. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a lined baking sheet.
7. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with salt. Bake at 425°F for 12–15 minutes or until golden brown.
8. Brush with additional butter after baking. Serve warm with your favorite dip.
