Ingredients
2 cups water
1 teaspoon ground turmeric
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 tablespoon honey
1/2 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
1 pinch ground black pepper
1 pinch ground cinnamon (optional)
Instructions
1. Add the water to a small saucepan and warm it over medium heat until it is just starting to steam, not fully boiling.
2. Whisk in the ground turmeric, grated fresh ginger, black pepper, and cinnamon if using, stirring until the spices are well dispersed.
3. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer and cook for about 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to infuse and the color to deepen.
4. Remove the pan from the heat and let the tea cool for a minute, then stir in the fresh lemon juice and honey until the honey is fully dissolved.
5. Strain the tea into one or two mugs to remove any bits of ginger or spices, adjusting sweetness or lemon to taste.
6. Serve warm, or let the tea cool completely and pour it over ice for a refreshing iced turmeric tea.
Notes
Adjust the honey to taste; if you’re using raw honey, stir it in after the tea has cooled slightly to preserve more of its soothing properties.
