Whether you’re looking for an easy dinner, cozy weekend lunch, or party-friendly sandwich idea, this one-skillet recipe delivers maximum comfort with minimal fuss. Perfect for busy weeknights, dinner ideas that please picky eaters, or food ideas to impress guests without breaking a sweat.

Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup beef broth

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon dried thyme

1 tablespoon cornstarch

2 tablespoons water

4 slices provolone cheese

4 brioche or potato buns

1 tablespoon olive oil (for caramelizing onions)

Salt and pepper to taste

Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

1. In a large skillet over medium heat, add olive oil and the sliced onions. Cook slowly for 20–25 minutes until golden and caramelized.

2. Add ground beef to the skillet with onions. Cook until browned and no longer pink.

3. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 more minute.

4. Pour in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme. Stir well and let simmer for 5–7 minutes.

5. Mix the cornstarch and water in a small bowl to create a slurry. Add to the skillet and stir to thicken.

6. Turn off the heat. Place provolone slices over the top of the beef mixture and let them melt. Gently stir or leave melted pockets.

7. Toast buns if desired. Scoop the beef mixture onto the buns and serve hot.

8. Garnish with chopped parsley for a fresh finish.

Notes

For even deeper flavor, deglaze your pan with a splash of red wine before adding the broth.

Don’t rush the onions—true caramelization makes all the difference in this recipe.
