Description

Craving something ultra comforting and simple for a family dinner? This French Onion Ground Beef and Rice Casserole is the answer. Packed with juicy ground beef, fluffy rice, and melty cheese, this one-dish wonder delivers big flavor with minimal fuss. Inspired by French onion soup, it’s the perfect balance of savory, creamy, and cheesy—all baked into a golden-topped casserole. Great for quick dinners, cozy comfort food, or easy meal prep, it hits all the marks for a satisfying, crowd-pleasing dish. Perfect for easy dinner ideas, casseroles, and warm food ideas.

Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

2 cups cooked white rice

1 can (10.5 oz) French onion soup

1/2 cup beef broth

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon fresh thyme (optional)

Instructions

1. In a skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat until fully cooked. Drain excess fat.

2. Add butter, garlic powder, and onion powder to the skillet. Stir to combine.

3. Pour in the French onion soup, Worcestershire sauce, and beef broth. Simmer for 3-5 minutes.

4. Stir in the cooked rice until everything is well combined.

5. Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13 baking dish and spread evenly.

6. Top with shredded cheese.

7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 15–20 minutes, until cheese is bubbly and golden.

8. Optional: Broil for 2–3 minutes for a crispier top.

9. Garnish with fresh thyme before serving if desired.

Notes

You can add mushrooms or caramelized onions for extra flavor.

Swap mozzarella for Gruyère for a more French onion soup–like finish.
