Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter
8 oz bittersweet chocolate, chopped
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup brown sugar
4 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter (for topping)
3 large egg yolks
1 cup brown sugar (for topping)
1 cup evaporated milk
1 tsp vanilla extract (for topping)
1 1/2 cups sweetened shredded coconut
1 cup chopped pecans, toasted
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (for drizzle)
1 tsp flaky sea salt (for garnish)
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×13 baking pan with parchment paper.
2. Melt butter and chopped bittersweet chocolate together in a heatproof bowl. Stir until smooth.
3. Whisk in granulated and brown sugar, then beat in eggs and vanilla.
4. Fold in flour and salt until just combined.
5. Spread batter in pan and bake for 25–30 minutes or until the center is set.
6. While brownies bake, make the topping by combining butter, egg yolks, brown sugar, and evaporated milk in a saucepan.
7. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened—about 10 minutes.
8. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla, coconut, and pecans.
9. Spread the topping over baked brownies.
10. Broil for 2–3 minutes until golden and caramelized (watch closely!).
11. Let cool, drizzle with melted chocolate chips, and sprinkle with flaky sea salt.
12. Slice into squares and enjoy!
Notes
Let the topping cool for a few minutes before spreading to prevent tearing the brownie base.
For an extra crunch, reserve some pecans and sprinkle them on top after broiling.
