Ingredients
12 Hawaiian dinner rolls
8 ounces sliced deli ham
6 slices Swiss or provolone cheese
4 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon light brown sugar packed
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon poppy seeds
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/4 cup thinly sliced red onion optional
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
2. Without separating the rolls, slice the entire slab of Hawaiian rolls horizontally to create a top and bottom layer.
3. Place the bottom layer of rolls into the prepared baking dish, cut side up.
4. Evenly layer the sliced ham over the roll bottoms, gently folding the slices so they cover the entire surface.
5. Lay the cheese slices over the ham, making sure the cheese reaches to the edges for even melting.
6. Scatter the thinly sliced red onion over the cheese, if using.
7. Set the top slab of rolls over the fillings, lining up the edges with the bottom layer.
8. In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, Dijon mustard, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, poppy seeds, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until smooth.
9. Brush the butter mixture generously over the tops of the rolls, letting it drip down the sides and into the creases.
10. Let the sliders rest for 5–10 minutes so the butter mixture can soak into the bread.
11. Bake for 18–20 minutes, or until the tops are deep golden and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
12. Remove from the oven and let the sliders rest for 5 minutes before slicing along the roll lines and serving warm.
Notes
For extra flavor, use a mix of Swiss and provolone cheese or swap in sharp cheddar for a stronger cheesy bite.
To make ahead, assemble the sliders up to the point of brushing with butter, cover tightly, refrigerate for up to 6 hours, then brush with the butter mixture and bake just before serving.
