Description

This soft, fluffy, and slightly sweet Amish White Bread is the kind of classic loaf that makes any meal feel special. Whether you’re after a quick breakfast option, a cozy slice of toast, or sandwich-ready bread, this recipe is simple enough for beginners and rewarding enough for seasoned bakers. Made with pantry staples and minimal kneading, it’s one of the best easy recipes to have on hand for everyday food ideas, breakfast ideas, or dinner ideas alike.

Ingredients

2 cups warm water (110°F)

2/3 cup white sugar

1 1/2 tablespoons active dry yeast

1 1/2 teaspoons salt

1/4 cup vegetable oil

6 cups bread flour or all-purpose flour

Instructions

1. In a large bowl, dissolve sugar in warm water, then stir in yeast. Let sit until frothy, about 5–10 minutes.

2. Add salt and oil to the yeast mixture. Gradually mix in flour one cup at a time.

3. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

4. Place dough in a greased bowl. Cover and let rise for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

5. Punch down the dough. Divide into two loaves. Place into two greased loaf pans.

6. Let rise again for 30–40 minutes until dough has risen 1 inch above the pans.

7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 25–30 minutes, until golden brown.

8. Remove from pans and cool on wire racks before slicing.

Notes

Use bread flour for better chew and rise.

Brush the top with melted butter after baking for added softness and shine.
