Ingredients

1 tablespoon olive oil

12 oz chicken sausage, sliced into rounds

1 small onion, finely chopped

3 garlic cloves, minced

1 cup uncooked orzo pasta

2 1/2 cups chicken broth

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/2 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Optional: Red pepper flakes for heat


Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Brown sliced chicken sausage on both sides (about 5–6 minutes). Remove and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, sauté chopped onion until soft (3 minutes), then add garlic and cook another 30 seconds.
  3. Add orzo and toast for 2–3 minutes, stirring frequently.
  4. Pour in chicken broth. Simmer uncovered for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Reduce heat to low. Stir in cream, Parmesan, and return sausage to the skillet. Heat for 3–4 more minutes.
  6. Season with salt and pepper. Garnish with fresh parsley and optional red pepper flakes. Serve hot.
