Ingredients

1 package puff pastry sheets (thawed if frozen)

1 pound ground beef or sausage

1 small yellow onion, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon fresh thyme, chopped

1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1 teaspoon salt

0.5 teaspoon black pepper

1 large egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

1. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef or sausage until browned.

2. Add diced onion and cook for about 5 minutes until translucent.

3. Stir in garlic, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, parsley, salt, and pepper. Cook until fragrant, then remove from heat and let cool.

4. Roll out puff pastry on a floured surface and cut into circles using a cookie cutter or glass.

5. Place half the rounds on a baking sheet. Add a spoonful of the cooled filling and cheddar cheese on each.

6. Cover with remaining pastry rounds and crimp the edges with a fork. Cut a small ‘X’ on top of each.

7. Brush each pie with beaten egg.

8. Bake in a preheated 400°F oven for 18–20 minutes until golden brown.

9. Cool for a few minutes on a wire rack. Serve warm.

Notes

For extra flakiness, chill the assembled pies for 10 minutes before baking.

You can substitute beef with mushrooms for a vegetarian version.
