Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

3/4 tsp baking soda

1/4 tsp baking powder

2 large eggs

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup vegetable oil

1/2 cup buttermilk

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/2 cup hot water or coffee

For the frosting:

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

3 1/2 cups powdered sugar

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 tsp salt

2 tsp vanilla extract

1/4 cup heavy cream (as needed)


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 12-cup muffin pan with cupcake liners.
  2. Sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  3. In another bowl, whisk eggs and sugar until light. Mix in oil, buttermilk, and vanilla.
