Description

These Sweet Heart Jam Cookies are the kind of pretty homemade treat that instantly makes any dessert spread feel special. With buttery shortbread-style cookies, a glossy fruity jam center, and a soft dusting of powdered sugar, they are perfect for Valentine’s Day desserts, holiday cookie trays, afternoon tea, party sweets, and easy baking ideas when you want something both simple and elegant. They look bakery-worthy, but they come together with basic pantry ingredients and a straightforward method that makes them a great easy recipe for dessert lovers, cookie fans, and anyone searching for fun food ideas to share.

Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

2/3 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg yolk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup strawberry jam

2 tablespoons powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

1. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and creamy.

2. Mix in the egg yolk and vanilla extract until fully combined.

3. Add the flour and salt, then mix until a soft dough forms.

4. Shape the dough into a disk, wrap it, and chill for 30 to 45 minutes.

5. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.

6. Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick.

7. Cut out heart shapes, then cut a smaller heart in the center of half of the cookies.

8. Arrange the cookies on the prepared baking sheets.

9. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.

10. Let the cookies cool completely on a wire rack.

11. Spread a small spoonful of strawberry jam on each solid cookie.

12. Top with the cutout cookies and dust lightly with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Chill the dough before rolling so the heart shapes stay clean and the cookies keep their neat edges while baking.

Let the cookies cool completely before adding the jam, or the filling can loosen and make the tops slide.
